第六步 重點單詞、詞組釋義
1. neither its cause, nor its cure was understood.它的病因和治療都不為人所了解。
并列連詞詞組 neither...nor 用來連接兩個并列的否定成分，意思是“既不……也不……”。
i have neither time nor money.（連接兩個并列賓語）
he was neither clever nor stupid, but good enough at his work.（連接兩個并列表語）
they could neither read nor write.（連接兩個并列謂語）
paul came just at the right time, neither too early nor too late.（連接兩個并列狀語）
注意：
1） 在連接兩個主語時，一般情況下動詞和靠近它的主語在人稱和數上一致，即就近原則
類似用法的結構還有：either... or..., not only...but also..., not...but...。
neither you nor he is wrong.
2） 與 neither... nor 相對應的詞組是 both... and。
2. look into 調查；研究
the police will look into the traffic accident.
her disappearance is being looked into by the police.
look through 翻閱；仔細檢查
look after 照看；照顧
look down on/upon 輕視；看不起
look out 小心
look over 檢閱；檢查
look up 仰視；察看
look up to sb. 尊敬或贊賞某人
3. prevent sb./sth.( from) doing sth. 意思是“阻止……做……”。
stop/keep sb./sth. 也是“阻止……做……”的意思。stop結構中可以省略from, 但keep結構中from不能省。
nothing can prevent/ stop us (from) getting married.
沒有什么能阻止我們結婚。
第七步 作業布置
1. 閱讀 notes to the text。
2. rewrite the passage in the first person.（讓學生互評互改，并在下一節課讓學生對所改寫課文進行復述。）
3. finish speaking task on page 46. (prepare a talk on their chosen scientist.)
