許多人家都要吃大蔥和蛋餅，寓意聰明伶俐，這個習俗一直延續(xù)至今。有的人家還要捏面花，稱作“蒸小燕”， 吃白面小雞和雞蛋。寓意小燕子來了，真正的春天到來了。清明這天早晨全家人一定要吃雞蛋和小雞，心明眼亮不得病，很多學生要帶雞蛋給老師以表敬仰。另外，清明節(jié)時將印有蝎子圖案的紙貼在家里，家中不招蝎子、蜈蚣，尤其是在農(nóng)村特別盛行。
“清明前后，種瓜點豆”，這是一句流傳廣泛的民間諺語。清末民初，農(nóng)村一帶開始合理安排農(nóng)時，清明節(jié)這天，好多農(nóng)家給牲口吃高粱米飯，俗語：“打一千，罵一萬，不忘清明節(jié)一頓高粱米飯�！背愿呒Z米粥、麥子粥、玉米粥，表示日子步步高，這一天用粥要讓牛、驢等飽餐一頓，以犒賞它們一年的辛勞。
